Parkinson’s disease is a degenerative movement disorder that can cause deterioration of motor skills, balance, speech, and sensory function. It is estimated there are more than 1 million people in the United States diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, and more than 60,000 people are diagnosed each year.

Parkinson's Symptoms

Motor Symptoms

  • Involuntary trembling/tremor
  • Slowness of movement (bradykinesia) and difficulty initiating movement
  • Postural and gait changes
  • Erratic muscle movements (dyskinesia)

Non-Motor Symptoms

  • Physical symptoms, such as vision problems and digestive disorders
  • “Parkinson’s Pain,” including neuropathy
  • Restless leg syndrome
  • Cognitive changes, including Parkinson’s dementia
  • Psychiatric issues, such as hallucinations or delusions
  • Emotional symptoms, including depression, anxiety
